Dear America...

We have a few questions to ask. As we watch a large amount of American television and films some aspects of American culture get slightly lost in translation.
For example,
What is a twinkie?
Who are the icecapades?
We have a link to the otherside of the Atlantic. We can pose these questions to her so feel free to forward any further queries you may have...

Twinkies are "Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling" according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkie) - I only know what they are from my avid readership of Babysitter Club books when I was a kid (ok, last week...)

Sounds a bit rude though, right? 'Twinkie'? Filled with 'Creamy filling'?

Icecapades - I think - are ice skaters who participate in ice musicals or the like, like Disney on Ice people are called Icecapades, really just a jazzed-up word for Drama School failures who have to dress up in tights and goofy costumes, kidding themselves that they're making ground-breaking theatre art.

What I want to know is...how on earth can kids like Fig Newtons? I tried one once and nearly ralphed all over myself, they're horrid biscuits filled with soft filling made from figs. DEE-GUUS-TEEN! But you read about them all the time in Sweet Valley Twins and Babysitters' Club, just yesterday I finished Claudia And Mean Janine and they were wolfing those fuckers down! Kur-azeeeee!
